What we do...

* Along with the great folks at the Dolphin Striker, the Old School Band funds a great party at the Striker on Monday, Dec 14 (8PM start). The Striker serves up lots of great food. We play lots of great music with all of our special weekly guests showing up (hopefully) in droves and we all get together to celebrate the holidays with friends and family!

What you do...

* According to 'Old School Rule #1'; you show up and 'Have A Good Time', throw a few bucks (suggested $10 donation - a little more if you can spare it) in the 'tip' (donation) jar, eat some great food, party with friends, listen, play, or dance to the music... and most importantly... you can feel good about yourself for helping a good and important cause.

What you do... if (sadly) you can't make it on the 14th...

* We've setup a PayPal account to which you can send a donation of any amount to the email address commontable@theoldschoolband.com - If you don't have a PayPal account but still wish to donate, you can send an email pledge to that same address and we'll catch up with you later.

Hi friends... if you, like most around the seacoast, have a roof over your head, you eat at least a couple decent meals daily, and you have time and money to come out once in a while to have fun with us on a Monday night - then we'd like to ask you for your help in a good cause!

As many of our fans know, The Old School Band motto is 'Have A Good Time' - and we always do. Great music, food, drink, and friends make it easy to have a good time. Unfortunately, there are many folks living in this area who just don't have the means to eat on a regular basis and could really use some help. If you haven't heard of the St John's Church 'Common Table', then it's probably because you are not one of these folks in need. Every Thursday (at lunch time), the amazing people over at the church put out a spread of food for anybody who can make their way in there and at no cost to those folks. For over 12 years they've been running this wonderful program that helps hundreds every week... and every year they try to make the holidays just a little better for these same people by putting out a beautiful and hearty meal on Christmas day... all at no charge for anyone who shows up... which is many. Also on Christmas Day, you'll find many of the same folks who cook and serve your meals and drinks at the Dolphin Striker, donating a large part of their Christmas day to helping out at St. Johns.

This is what Christmas is really supposed to be about; caring for and being with others - especially those in need!

Keep this in mind; the food served at the Common Table doesn't just magically appear on the tables for these weekly events. This is a people and money intensive operation. On average, it costs about $250 each week to cover just the food costs. On top of the actual monetary expense, there are many people who volunteer their time, skills, and love to preparing, presenting, and then cleaning up the meals. These volunteers are true heros in our community and the Old School Band is trying to do our small part to help them out so they can keep doing what they are more than happy to do - provided the program is financially viable.

So... with all of this in mind, The Old School Jam Session is about to present it's 6th annual fundraising event for the St. John's Church Common Table food kitchen. Along with the owners and the great people who run the Dolphin Striker (Old School's home base), we will be doing the heavy lifting in this event by donating our pay for the evening. The Dolphin Striker will match our donation and use that money to put out a great spread of amazing Striker food for anyone who shows up. All you need to do is show up and have a good time (and a good meal) along with putting a suggested $10 donation (more if you can afford it) in the tip jar... Keep in mind the food is free for you... 100% of all donations go to the Common Table and if we can get 100 people to give, then we'll reach our goal of $1000, which will come close to covering one month of the program. Of course we'd love to top our goal, but we'll be happy with whatever you all can afford.

We, in the Old School Band really do appreciate all the support we've been given over the 6 1/2 years we've been 'having a good time' at the Striker. This event is in large part our thank you to all of you friends, fans, pickers and singers who keep it fun and fresh every week. However, in the spirit of this holiday season, we are hoping you will also add your support to this vital program that does so much good in our community.
